As
you know, the food we eat is the fuel that our bodies run on --
our sustenance. Food gives your body the nutrients that you need to
carry out life's functions, to maintain health, to heal and repair and to
encourage healthy cell development.
But
food can also have a down side.
Because
it can also make you very, VERY sick.
And
I'm not even talking about food poisoning.
I'm
talking about allergies and sensitivities.
One
is pretty clear-cut, and the other is not so obvious. So it's essential to
know the difference and how they may be affecting YOU.
Here's
why...
Food allergies
When
someone is truly allergic to a food, there is NO mistaking the
cause-and-effect relationship.
Simply
put, food allergies are when your immune system sees a harmless substance
as a dangerous pathogen or invader and your body reacts by releasing the
hormone histamine. This causes itchy skin or swelling in the lips, mouth,
tongue and throat.
Other
reactions can include a runny nose, shortness of breath, hives, flushing,
dizziness, vomiting or diarrhea.
A
much less common--but far more dangerous--reaction is anaphylaxis. This is
when your body releases a HUGE amount of histamine after an offending food
is eaten.
It
causes blood vessels to dilate, blood pressure to drop and body tissues to
swell. If there is too much swelling in the nose and throat, the air supply
can be cut off and death can result.
People
at risk for anaphylaxis are advised to carry a device that allows them to
quickly inject themselves with adrenaline to reverse the life-threatening
reaction.
Most
food allergies fall into these 8 categories:
Milk
Eggs
Wheat
Soy
Peanuts
Nuts that grow on trees (almonds, cashews, pecans, etc.)
Fish
Shellfish
Thankfully,
food allergies are rare -- they affect only 1-2% of adults and can be
easily diagnosed with proper skin or blood testing. Avoidance of the
offending food or foods is crucial.
Food sensitivities
Although
many people confuse the two, food sensitivities are vastly different from
food allergies.
With
food sensitivities, the cause-and-effect relationship is not so clear
because no histamine is released and you don't get symptoms right away
after eating the food.
Many
times it can be DAYS before your body reacts.
Plus,
the symptoms triggered by food sensitivities can run the gamut and can be
associated with MANY other conditions, so it's very hard to pinpoint food
as the cause.
Here are just some of
the possible symptoms of food sensitivities:
Head: Migraines,
difficulty sleeping, dizziness
Mouth and throat: Coughing,
gagging, sore throat, hoarseness, frequent throat clearing
Eyes, ears and nose: Runny or stuffy
nose, ear ringing, blurred vision, watery eyes, hearing loss, dark circles
under eyes
Heart and lungs: Irregular
heartbeat, asthma, chest pain, shortness of breath, bronchitis
Gastrointestinal: Nausea,
vomiting, constipation, diarrhea, bloating, gas, stomach pain, heartburn
Skin: Hives, rashes,
psoriasis, eczema, acne, hair loss, dry skin
Muscles and joints: Weakness, joint
aches, arthritis, swelling
Mental: Depression,
memory lapses, difficulty concentrating, apathy, aggressive behavior,
learning difficulties, confusion, cravings, binge eating or drinking
As
you can imagine, determining that you even have a food sensitivity to begin
with and then narrowing down what foods are the offenders can be like
trying to find a needle in a haystack.
Take
a look at the above list again. Are you suffering from some of those
symptoms? You might even be on medication for them and are wondering why
you're not feeling any better.
If
so, chances are excellent food sensitivities may be the cause.
Now,
unlike food allergies, food sensitivities are CREATED. They are not
pre-destined at birth, and are usually the result of a leaky gut wall.
What
happens is this:
Creation of a food
sensitivity
When
your gut (intestinal) wall is healthy, it functions like a
gatekeeper. It allows properly digested fats, proteins and starches
"through the gate" to be absorbed into the bloodstream so they
can be assimilated and used by your body.
At
the same time, poorly digested food particles, dangerous toxins and harmful
bacteria are "locked in" to the intestine and held there until
they can be eliminated with your feces.
But
the problem arises when your gut wall becomes weak and too porous (leaky).
Then it starts allowing improperly broken down food molecules that are too
big for your body to use to pass through into the bloodstream.
Your
immune system sees these "big food chunks" as invaders and begins
developing a reaction to fight them off.
If
this happens over and over, your body will eventually see that food in ANY
size molecule or state of digestion as dangerous and voila -- you
have given birth to a food sensitivity.
Plus,
don't forget that dangerous toxins and bacteria may be allowed to pass into
your bloodstream from your leaky gut wall too, causing any number of
sicknesses or diseases to flourish.
Encouraging news
If
your life is affected by food allergies or known or suspected food
sensitivities, I have some encouraging news for you.
Probiotics
and digestive enzymes can be a BIG help.
Here's
how:
For food allergies
Research
has shown that probiotic
supplementation can significantly reduce allergic reactions to foods.
One
study was conducted at Seoul National University in South Korea and
published in 2005 in the Federation of European Microbiological Societies'
Immunology and Medical Microbiology journal.
The
researchers tested two groups of mice that were allergic to egg white. Half
of the mice were given Bifidobacterium bifidum and Lactobacillus casei
every day for 5 weeks and the other half received none.
After
the 5 weeks, all of the mice were given egg white. Those treated with the
probiotics had significantly fewer allergic reactions, measured by how much
histamine they produced.
Human
trials have been conducted that show similar results.
In
one of the studies published in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical
Immunology, researchers from Finland studied 27 babies who were
allergic to cow's milk. For one month, cow's milk was removed from their
diets and 13 of them were given Lactobacillus rhamnosus. The other 14 were
not given any probiotics.
After
one month, all of the babies were given cow's milk again. Those who had the L. rhamnosus showed significantly
fewer reactions to the milk than the babies who received no probiotics.
Food
allergies were one of the reasons we included potent strains of both Bifidobacterium
bifidum and Lactobacillus casei in Super Shield
multi-strain probiotic formula.
Those
and Super Shield's 11 other
superstar probiotic strains will help fight the effects of both food
allergies and environmental allergies, as well as beef up your immune
system.
For food sensitivities
Part 1
Super Shield
Probiotic formula shines here too.
You
see, one of the most common causes of leaky gut syndrome (which
is the "enabler" behind most food sensitivities) is harmful
bacterial overgrowth in the gut.
The
"bad guys" overcome the beneficial bacteria in your gut and
"eat away" at your intestinal lining, making it too porous.
Thanks
to processed and fast food, stress, medications and other factors, many
people have serious harmful bacteria overgrowth and don't even know it.
And
while having a healthy diet can help reverse that and encourage your
friendly flora to thrive, it may not be enough.
So
probiotic supplementation is crucial for a strong gut wall and the prevention
of food sensitivities.
Super Shield
can help you here too. Its 13 powerful strains will line up along your
intestinal wall, helping to make it less porous. That way, dangerous particles
can be "locked in" and eliminated in your feces instead of
seeping into your blood and causing food sensitivities and other illnesses.
Part 2
The
other half of fighting food sensitivities is making sure your food
particles are broken down completely.
While
a good diet is key here, the truth is many people are not going to eat
right 100% of the time.
Others
may try to improve their diet but eventually will fall back into their old
habits.
And
still others would rather stick needles in their eyeballs than to eat a
fruit or vegetable!
So
to ensure that ALL of your foods are broken down like they need to be ALL
the time, you can give your body some help as needed with Digestizol Max
digestive enzymes.
Digestizol
Max's blend of 14 plant-based enzymes will work
alongside your body's own digestive process, helping to prevent poorly
digested food particles and the wrath they can cause in your bloodstream.
Get
the upper hand on food allergies or sensitivities and help make their
misery a thing of the past for you (or prevent sensitivities before they
take hold of you).
See
for yourself how Super Shield
and Digestizol
Max can make all the difference in the world for you.

your health,

Sherry:
My life has changed for the
better since reading all of your literature! Thank you for everything you
write.
Your probiotics
have literally changed my life. In a nutshell, I am no longer controlled by
my colon-I control it!
I am 70 years old and in
general good health, but having "issues."
I was referred to a
gastroenterologist who after 10 minutes, and $650 told me I needed pills
for "spastic colon."
After reading the
side-effects, and being married to a physician, I tossed them, and opted to
try probiotics instead.
After about a month, I can
honestly say you have probably saved me from having surgery. A tiny bit of
adjustment in my morning routine, but that's ok-I can't say enough about
your Super Shield product, and about all of the helpful suggestions
regarding food combinations.
